Ace formed in London in December 1972 as Ace Flash and the Dynamos and spent their first year playing covers and originals on the capital’s flourishing pub-rock circuit. Keyboardist Paul Carrack and bassist Terry ‘Tex’ Comer of the recently defunct Warm Dust joined forces with guitarists Alan ‘Bam’ King and Phil Harris. Drummer Steve Witherington would eventually be replaced by Irishman Fran Byrne. Ace released three albums on the Anchor label between 1974 and 1977, but will always be remembered for one song. That song, ‘How Long’, made Number 20 in their native United Kingdom but went all the way to Number 3 in the States in 1975 – quite an achievement for a band that unashamedly took its musical inspiration from that side of the Atlantic. Enjoy this hit and its original B-side on this yellow 7″ single!
