Coplix Records was established in 1958 by Jonie Taps and Harry Cohn; its name is a conflation of ‘Columbia’ and ‘Pictures’. The label was founded chiefly as an outlet for the soundtracks of the Columbia Pictures movies and television shows and it was based in New York City. In the few short years that it existed before it was discontinued in 1966, Colpix Records was the launch pad for several important rock and pop acts and has a unique place in the multi-faceted world of rock and roll.
