Most experts will tell you that the boom years for blues recording were 1927 to 1930, the onset of the Depression curtailing the activities of the record companies but, more importantly, lessening the buying power of the already poverty-stricken black community. The migration northwards to the urban centres also altered consumer tastes. The unsophisticated sounds of the country were no longer relevant and city dwellers demanded music that would reflect their lifestyles. Rhythm and blues was about to give them what they wanted, but the Delta blues would never die. This definitive compilation offers 75 good reasons why.
