When the blues arrived in Detroit, Michigan, in the Forties, it was brought there by men like John Lee Hooker – rural acoustic guitar players who gravitated to the Motor City looking for work. The war years made that work plentiful, and when peace came they stayed and made the city their home. Our compilation majors on the decade after the end of World War II when the blues emerged and was recognised as one of popular music’s most influential genres. This selection of 28 timeless tracks has weathered half a century well, and will still sound great in the next.
