Walter William (“Max”) Bygraves was born in 1922 in London’s East End. During a long career he epitomized the idea of the “all round entertainer”, becoming one of the biggest stars in the UK’s entertainment firmament from the early 1950s to the mid-60s. His appeal, both as singer and comedian, ensured a steady stream of radio, TV, film and cabaret appearances, including a recordbreaking 19 Royal Variety Performances. These days, Max is seldom remembered for his Hit Parade success, but this comprehensive collection celebrates his successful career on the UK charts, where he scored over a dozen hits during his 1950s heyday.
