Saxophonist Dexter Gordon found fame and a little fortune very late in life due to his appearance as Dale Turner in the 1986 film Round Midnight, one the better films that has used jazz as its subject-matter. His nomination for best actor at the Academy Awards did not find him lifting a coveted Oscar but it did bring his name to the general public, who had little idea of his history and in truth cared even less. What the film-goers actually saw on screen was a major jazz artist who had suffered similar trials and tribulations to the character he depicted on celluloid. Enjoy an early manifestation of his talent with these two original albums digitally remastered on two CDs.
